It is the year of Kobe. Mamba mentality in year 24. I have now spent 24 years on this earth. Here’s 24 things that 24 years of life have taught me.
If you want something, you have to go get it yourself. Just like people love to say, if he wanted to, he would.
Any catalyst for change in your life is you. No one is going to change your life for you.
You can have all the money in the world and save tirelessly for retirement but if you don’t prioritize your health, none of that matters.
Health is the greatest form of wealth. In life, you don’t truly understand the value of health until you are sick. When you are sick, you do everything in your power to restore your health. Prioritize your health.
Having good friends is an integral part of life. Don’t expect them to reach out to you, reach out to them. They will be happy you did and probably wish they reached out sooner.
Relationships are the basis of life and the loneliness crisis is very real. You will never regret reaching out to a friend. Friends are the family you get to choose.
If something scares you, within reason, you should probably do it.
When you are doing something that you deeply love and are heavily invested in, fear is natural. Fear is the byproduct of calculated risk. Fear shows your interest in what you are undertaking. If you had no fear, you probably wouldn’t be that interested. Embrace the fear.
Do leg day at least twice a week and stretch every day. It will help you not to feel so old and keep your body young.
Just like the engine of your car needs oil to run, your legs need to be strengthened and stretched to work. Our legs allow us to move and be free in this world. Value them.
If you convince your mind, your body will follow.
The body achieves what the mind believes.
Do something 200 times before you give up. 200 represents a significant sample size where the true odds will eventually play out. Give yourself time and if you give up before, don’t be mad it didn’t work out, you never gave it a true chance.
The more you do something, the better you get. Repetition is your friend. At the gym, the more you do an exercise, the stronger you get. That applies anywhere.
Life is precious. Don’t rush it. Part of the excitement of life is the build-up to getting there wherever that may be.
Be present, be in the moment. Life is short.
People always have enough time. Time can be made, it is just a matter of if it is a priority.
If your water heater went out, you would make time for it. You don’t plan on having time at the beginning of the week but it would immediately become a priority. The same notion applies everywhere.
If you think highly of something that someone is doing/wearing/saying/etc. Let them know. A compliment can go a long way.
Everyone loves a good compliment and to be commended for what they do. A good compliment never hurt nobody.
Everyone knows something you don’t, take advantage of that.
Every single creature on this earth has something they are passionate about. Passion leads to a chase. A chase to learn more. Passion enthralls people, so much they spend an abnormal amount of time in that area. The more time you spend, the more you work towards becoming an expert. Find what everyone is an expert in and learn from them.
If you are struggling to create a habit, give yourself one more day at it. One more day.
The heaviest weight at the gym is the front door. Once you are there, you will workout. Just try to lift that weight one more day. One more day until it becomes a habit.
We preach diversity on everything but not language, the ultimate medium of exchange. Embrace diversity in linguistics and try to become bilingual.
Language is the ultimate network effect. The United States only cares about English. Break that mold.
Sometimes, magic is someone spending more time on something than anyone might reasonably expect.
Repetition. Repetition. Repetition. It only takes 21 podcasts to be in the top 1% of podcasts. That may not seem too magical, but it is.
The people, the masses know.
Much of finance is trying to impress other people. One of the best financial assets is not being concerned about impressing other people.
Always offer gratitude.
Be thankful for what got you here today and always thank those who helped you.
Consistency always wins. Consistency only gets better when the timeline is lengthened.
Just like we work out our biceps, triceps, and legs, we need to workout the mind muscle. Give your mental physique as much attention as your physical physique.
The mind is important and the mind needs working out just like the body. Attend to your mentals.
Much of life is a situation where the upside is great and the downside is little. Positive asymmetry. Most of the time, the worst they could say is no.
Embrace the natural curiosity you had when you were a child. Always ask why. However, not so much you are a hater, rather be a skeptic.
Always be learning, always be curious. Learning should not stop when we graduate. Always chase something, it will make you better.
Everyone learns from someone.
Kobe learned from MJ. Jobs idolized Edwin Land. Buffett studied under Benjamin Graham. No matter how successful someone is, they always learn from someone else. We are no different. Find someone you love and dissect their life.
Regret makes you better, regret makes you human. Learn from it.
Regret offers a chance to learn from something. It tells you what you could have done better.
Life is short, enjoy it.
