The Best Strategy In The World Is Simple
Your strategy is only as good as your ability to articulate it.
I changed my mind on wanting to be a genius. Having a brilliant, complex strategy only gets you so far. As Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, says,
“Your strategy is only as good as your ability to articulate it.”
Being a wizard with an intelligent, clever strategy sounds nice. However, if I can’t condense my strategy into a simple story, nothing matters. Simple lies above everything. Geniuses included. The man whose name is synonymous with genius agrees. In Einstein’s five levels of cognitive prowess, simple reigns supreme.
A simple strategy in a paragraph will motivate more people than a genius strategy in five paragraphs. I don’t want to write something filled with fluff and puff my chest. People’s tolerance for long, eloquent writing has dwindled, with their attention always being seized. If I have much to say, every word better captivate, or AI will be summoned to summarize. See a tweet that is complicated and hard to understand? Grok will simplify. Want to start a gym habit, but paralyzed by all the jargon? Screw it, ChatGPT will devise a tailored plan.
The world grows simpler, frictionless even. Checking out online at Shein or Abercrombie & Fitch? Don’t worry, your credit card details populate with facial recognition. College students don't labor over perplexing homework. AI does it for them. If you are attacked by an unrelenting craving for a thick, fresh Chipotle Burrito, but don't want to pick it up, press a few buttons, and a burrito taxi brings it to you. It’s simple.
I am learning how the world evolves because writing isn’t immune. My writing should be no different. Shakespeare once said,
“Brevity is the soul of wit.”
I do the heavy lifting. I struggle over the right words. I cut my writing to see what is even alive. My stories that bring my strategy alive need to be simple. The wizards are the ones who are concise. Those can compress a complex idea into simple words. It isn’t complicated. In fact, it should be pretty simple.
Appreciate you being here.
